Four ISO 9001 mistakes that delay a first audit
Copied procedures, unclear ownership, missing records and last-minute training are common — and all are preventable before the auditor arrives.
The short answer
The safest preparation is a small, accurate system that people really use — not a large manual created for the auditor.
1. Copying a generic manual
A procedure that describes roles or approvals that do not exist creates immediate contradictions during interviews. Documents should describe the real company, in plain language.
2. Creating controls without records
Saying that suppliers are reviewed or complaints are analysed is not evidence. The auditor needs completed records showing that the control operates over time.
3. Leaving ownership unclear
Every important process needs an owner who understands the expected outcome, measures performance and acts when results fall short.
4. Training people the day before
People do not need to memorise clauses. They need to understand the policy, their role and where records are kept. Amprovia tests this through interviews and a mock audit before the formal assessment.
